Afghanistan has seen war with the Soviet Union, civil war, and the rise of the Taliban, which led to a protracted U.S.-directed military operation in the country. These conflicts have had a devastating effect on civilians, especially children. UNICEF identified Afghanistan as the worst place to be born in the world. The organization has documented mass displacement and victimization of children in the country due to armed conflicts. Relief efforts aimed at providing food for children have primarily focused on urban areas. According to the Library of Congress’s Federal Research Division, 75% of the country’s population lives in rural areas. This means that relief efforts tend not to reach the destitute and hungry children that need it.
Khan-Poor American Charity Corp., or K-PAC, is a nonprofit organization devoted to providing relief to children in conflict zones. The organization will focus on developing and executing programs that will ultimately bring food, vaccinations, and education to children in rural communities. It will help those without the means to travel to urban areas served by larger charitable organizations. K-PAC will begin its efforts in Afghanistan, where it has developed regional partnerships that will provide food services to rural areas. The organization’s representatives within Afghan communities will identify the rural villages most in need of food distribution and work with local leaders to develop a cooked meal delivery service.
